  1. In the story, the novel “To Kill a Mocking Bird”, on page 54 of chapter 4, there is an important quote or passage that reflects foreshadowing. The passage says “Atticus’s arrival was the second reason I wanted to quit the game. The first reason happened the day I rolled into the Radley front yard. Through all the head-shaking, quelling of nausea and Jem’s yelling, I had heard another sound, so low I could not have heard it from the sidewalk. Someone inside the house was laughing.” This quote shows us that someone is inside the Radleys’ house and that mysterious person will make us wonder who he/she is. If it isn’t significant to the story later on, the author, Harper Lee will not include it in her story and make us wonder for no reason.
The Radleys’ house is scary to everyone in the neighborhood and Boo Radley is thought of as a ghost and maybe died in the house. When Scout heard the sound, it suggests that maybe Boo is still alive. Also, it shows that the game of Boo Radley that Jem and Dill going to play is not such a good idea because if Boo is alive and well and he is watching them, they might get into danger or else is plunge into an experience that they can never wish to escape. In addition, this shows that Scout is not very much into the game because she notices bad things and she is worried about the game. More than this, the word “laughing” is very strong in the quote because it is a scary connotation that makes the readers feel the “oh ohh!” kind of feeling. We are scared and waiting with anxiety, wanting to know who is laughing and whether that person is dangerous or not.

  2. When Scout walks along the Radley’s house, Scout has “ examine my loot. The gum looked fresh. I sniffed it and smelled it alright. I licked it and waited a while. When I didn't die I scram it into my mouth: Wrigley’s Double Mints.”
Scout sees the chewing gum in the oak tree near the Radley’s house. She observes it and then eats it.
Imagery: The imagery the author uses, describes all reactions when Scout first sees the gum and eats it. Scout first wants to test if the gum is ok and then swallows it. This tells that the author wants to tell us that Scout is a very young kid and careless on what she is doing.
Mood: The text that I read makes me feel very sympathetic because when I was a kid I usually do that to the food I don’t know, too. I feel that scout is careless and doesn't mind much about the eating. I can conclude the scout is probably hungry or really wants the gum so much because she loves sweet.
I don’t think that this quote is important because we are not going to know much of the character and this probably not foreshadowing which can make predict about the future event. What we can see in this text is that the author has done a very good job make making the character like a normal children and it doesn't impact the story very much.
